Book Project:
Miguel's Quarantine Adventure

During the pandemic, I developed a book project for my course, "Senior Studio." I chose to create storytelling for deaf children and hard of hearing because it reminded me of my hearing mother, who used to sign to tell stories by reading to me and my hearing siblings "The Lion King" and "Treasure Planet." when we were very young. After reading, I used to be imaginative when playing with dolls to tell a story. So, I created my first book about a deaf boy, a hearing father, and a dog who are living at home while quarantining because the pandemic affected young deaf/ hard of hearing children unable to socialize or play outside with other kids. Technology has changed so much, and it can be easy for them to play online games. However, they must enjoy their indoor activities rather than be attached to their iPads and video games. It made me wonder if, one day, I can inspire parents to read stories in ASL (American Sign Language) to their deaf children and try fun activities and online games equally.

Each of the 26 artists challenged themselves to create one alphabet letter and creature hand by random assignment.

The purpose of this art project collaboration is to help spread awareness about cultural appropriation and making a difference in our community and spreading awareness to reach out to the artistic community.
